REGULAR
MEETING – AUGUST 10, 2015 – 7:30 P.M. – STUDY HALL ROOM – CORSICA-STICKNEY
ELEMENTARY
The Regular
Meeting of the Corsica-Stickney Board of Education was held on Monday, August
10, 2015 – 7:30 p.m. in the Study Hall Room of Corsica-Stickney Elementary.
Members Present:
Jeremy Wright, President; Chad Clites, Bob Bamberg, Shannon Tolsma, & Nicole
Bamberg.
Members
Absent: Don Odens & Jason Lagge
Officers
Present: Scott Muckey, Superintendent;
Justin Downes, Secondary Principal; Ferra Kemp, Elementary Principal and Angie
Feenstra, Business Manager.
There was a
silent prayer prior to the meeting
President Wright called the meeting to order
at 7:39 p.m. and a quorum was established. The Pledge of Allegiance preceded
the approval of the meeting agenda.
Motion by Bob
Bamberg seconded by Tolsma to approve the agenda with additions as
presented. Carried.
Open Forum/Public Discussion
There was no open
forum or public discussion at this meeting.
Unfinished Business
1. Corsica-Stickney School/Community
Improvement Council
Discussion was held on the
new Community Improvement Council. The
people listed to be on the council will be contacted to see if they are willing
to participate.
2. Wellness Center Weight Equipment
Motion by Nicole Bamberg
seconded by Clites to sell the weight equipment to the Corsica Wellness Center
for $1.00. The sale was made with the
provision if the wellness center would ever sell the equipment and/or go out of
business the Corsica-Stickney School would have first chance to buy it back for
$1.00. Carried.
3. District Owned Housing in
Stickney/Garage in Corsica
After
discussion on the housing in both Corsica and Stickney it was decided the
school would rent out the house in Stickney after making minor repairs. Those interested should contact the Business
Manager. The school district will be
getting bids to do some remodeling in the Corsica house. Motion by Tolsma seconded by Bob Bamberg to
allow President of the board to accept bids.
Carried.
4. Food Allergy Procedure
Motion
by Clites seconded by Nicole Bamberg to accept the Food Allergy Procedure. Copies of the procedure will be sent home
with students. Carried.
Motion by Tolsma
seconded by Bob Bamberg to approve the July 13, 2015 Board Meeting Minutes. Carried.
Motion by
Tolsma seconded by Bob Bamberg to approve the July 2015 Financial
Statement. Carried.
Motion by Tolsma
seconded by Nicole Bamberg to approve the July 2015 Trust and Agency Report
with a beginning balance of $17,434.67 disbursements of $1949.16 receipts of
$3841.82 for an ending balance of $19327.33.
Carried.
Motion by Nicole
Bamberg seconded by Clites to approve the August 2015 listing of bills. Motion carried.
CD Rate Quotes
Motion by
Tolsma seconded by Clites to invest $750,000 for 18 months in CD’s at Farmers
State Bank in Stickney and to invest $750,000 for 12 months in CD’s at Farmers
State Bank in Parkston. Rate quotes were
also received from Bank of the West, First Dakota & First State Bank.
Bank Depository
Add Farmers
State Bank, Parkston as an official depository of the Corsica-Stickney
School. Motion by Tolsma seconded by Bob
Bamberg. Carried.
Deposit of Interest
Motion by Bob
Bamberg seconded by Nicole Bamberg to authorize the business manager to deposit
interest earned in the district funds to the General Fund. Carried.
LP,Gas, Diesel, quotes
Bids were
received for the 2015-2016 heating season for 20,000 gallons of propane. After much discussion the board directed the
business manager to get bids for the 2016-2017 Heating Season because of
current prices. A special board meeting
will be held to discuss bids for both heating seasons within the next
week. Discussion was also held on the
availability of gas and diesel for the districts busses for 2015-2016 school
year. The business manager has been in
contact with Hoffman Gas and Grill & M & L Repair and they will be
offering $0.02/gallon discount.
Water Heaters
Bids were
received for new water heaters for the school after the current ones both
started leaking. Motion by Tolsma
seconded by Nicole Bamberg to have BH Heating & Cooling install the new
water heaters. Carried.
Surplus Textbooks
Motion by
Nicole Bamberg seconded by Bob Bamberg to declare unused textbooks surplus at
no value and allow them to be disposed of.
Carried.
Other Discussion
Other items
discussed were the ASBSD Convention, the sound system, TIE textbook project,
sports trainer provided by Avera, goal posts at football field, and use of the
school by the Stickney Fire Department for training.
Executive Session – SDCL 1-25-2 (1) Staff
At 10:38 p.m., motion by Bob
Bamberg seconded by Clites to go into executive session to discuss
personnel. Carried. Declared out of executive session at 11:15p.m.
by President Wright.
Adjourn
There being no
further business, at 11:16 p.m., motion by Tolsma seconded by Bob Bamberg to
adjourn. Carried. The next regular meeting date will be Monday,
September 14, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom A of the high school.
