Elective Course

One-half unit of credit(Fall Semester)

This is designed to be an introductory course to legalities.

What will be covered?

Terminology is very important along with spelling and composing. 

Unit 1 will introduce various types of law, its history, ethics, legal procedure, as well as crimes and torts.

Unit 3 will introduce you to legalities of contract law and what is needed to have a valid contract.

Unit 7 will introduce you to property laws and how people create bailments(something you may not know what it is but you do everyday) as well as legal descriptions of real property.

 

Activities: Court simulation---Script either a tort or criminal case and try it.

                   Research---Design a questionairre and e-mail to others to obtain viewpoints on various social issues.

                   Court visitation--Possibly attend a trial-court if scheduling works out.

                   Be responsible for presenting a chapter of choice or an appropriate topic with use of powerpoint.

                   View tapes on serial murder and develop a psychololical profile of these individuals in conjunction with                      the Sociology/Psychology class.

Grading Scale:   90-100     A
                            80-89       B
                            70-79       C
                            60-69       D
                              0-59       F

 

Testing:   Tests consist of multiple choice, true or false, short answer essay, essay, and reflections or opinions using consequential or deontological reasoning.  Demonstrate usage of technology as well as grammar skills are important.
